Celtic booked their place in next month’s League Cup Final as a James Forrest strike was enough to see us over the line in a stuffy semi final against St Johnstone.
Celtic were the dominant force overall but semi finals are rarely pretty affairs and it wasn’t until that late goal that we could begin thinking about a return to Hampden.
St Johnstone – as expected – set up in a very defensive shape, with the onus on us to break that down. Frustratingly any clear chances were few and far between until James Forrest, as he often does, stepped up on the big occasion.
Defensively we were rarely troubled throughout the 90 minutes with Carter-Vickers and Welsh holding firm. James McCarthy also played his part in the latter stages to see us over the line as the clock ticked down on the 97 minutes (97!).
Ange who’s been with us for less than 6 months can now look forward to his first cup final with Celtic and what could be a hugely important occasion as he looks to get the club back to winning ways!
